Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Birthing Your Way offers our laboring moms Nitrous Oxide to assist in pain management. Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, helps you to relax without slowing down the progress of your labor, and it will not harm your baby.

Nitrous Oxide is a less invasive approach to pain relief in labor. Laughing gas can help take the edge off the pain when other comfort measures fail. It is administered by mask so it allows the mother to decide when and for how long it is given. This allows you to move, eat, and labor.

A 50/50 blend of Nitrous and Oxygen reduces anxiety and offers pain relief in under a minute, and it will leave the body within minutes. This leaves you more alert and does not disrupt the crucial bonding time after the arrival of your baby. Commonly used in the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, Nitrous Oxide has helped many women accomplish a more peaceful and less painful delivery. Nitrous Oxide is only used in 1% of births in America, but is available at our Lehi center.

At Birthing Your Way, most of our clients do not request or need pain medication, but those who do have liked having this option available to them. Please consult one of our midwives to find out how Nitrous Oxide can help you during the arrival of your little one.
