Midwife Care

Personalized Midwife Care

Personalized Care

When choosing Birthing Your Way, you will receive compassionate and knowledgeable care for women, by women. Our practice improves midwifery care by allowing only 2 midwives. Our goal is to provide each expecting mother with more personalized care by our midwives, from the moment you walk through the door to the moment you give birth, and beyond.

How seeing your midwife works:
We encourage you to schedule a visit to both midwives at least once so that you are comfortable with both of them. You are always welcome to see both of our fantastic midwives; there are no restrictions on who you can see. Our midwives do go on vacation occasionally, but we will do our very best to make sure they are both available when you are due. .

Our CNMs, can write prescriptions for common issues during pregnancy like bladder infections and thyroid problems. However, they need to have at least one visit with you, per regulations, during this pregnancy before she can write one. Because of this, we recommend your first or second visit be with a CNM, so that they can prescribe medications to you if needed later in your pregnancy. If an issue requiring prescription medication arises and you have not had a visit with her, you would need to see a CNM for your next visit or go to your primary care provider for a prescription if it is needed immediately.

The Birth

Birthing Your Way policy is to give the expecting mother control of her labor and birth. Our experienced midwives are there to guard, guide, and protect your birthing process. On your birthing day, when you decide to call us, we will discuss with you when you should come to the birth center, or if birthing at home, when you can expect your birth team to arrive.

When your birth team arrives you will be surrounded by your trusted team of midwives who will assist you throughout the labor process . You will be given the opportunity to decide where you would like to birth your baby, whether it’s in the water, on a birthing stool, or even in a comfortable bed. Birthing Your Way allows you to choose who is there to support you during labor and how we care for you and your baby. During the labor process you are able to decide when and what you would like to eat and/or drink.
Mother Caring for Her Baby
Birth of Your Baby
This is the birth of YOUR baby. Birthing Your Way’s goal is to give you the support you need to achieve the birth you desire. Immediate postpartum care is given to you and your baby after the birth. We will do any tests that you would like to have done along with the newborn exam which is done right next to you. After the birth, babies are kept with the mother and not placed in a separate nursery in order to facilitate and encourage family bonding. Your midwife will be there to make sure that you and your family are adjusting well. Our staff is also there to assist you with the baby to make sure those first hours go smoothly and to help establish breastfeeding if needed.
If you are having a home birth, we will leave your home as clean as we found it. We will take care of cleaning up, so that you may bond as a new family. Your house will not feel like a hospital room or a place where someone has recently given birth. .

If birthing in one of our beautiful birth suites, you may recover in the birth suite for about 18 hours after the birth of your baby. For births at home we will stay with you for around 3 hours. If interested in extended care for your home birth, please notify the midwife at your 36-week prenatal visit
Postpartum visits are scheduled at 24-36 hours after discharge in the comfort of your own home. Then in the office, we will see you for your postpartum visits at 5 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 6 weeks, or as often as needed for breastfeeding help. A second newborn exam will be done at your two-week visit. We are the only Birth Center in Utah county that offers a 24 hour after discharge home visit. (The mile radius for the 24 hr home visit is offered for a limited distance.)
